Philosophy

Everyone wants to be heard and understood in their line of work, and I learned how to help others achieve this. I come equipped with skills to improve your presentations, speeches, performance, and voice. Working on confidence, body language, stage presence, vocal clarity, accent work, voiceover, and voice for the stage, I will guide you to speak clearly so you are not just heard, but so you connect with your audience.

Experience

I have coached across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. I currently serve as a Tenure-Track Professor of Voice and Speech at Utah Valley University, and was an Assistant Professor at Penn State University for four years before taking on the position. I hold an MFA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and a BFA in Acting from the University of Calgary. Please click the button below to review my full academic resume.

Testimonials

“I began working with Steven at the beginning of my college audition process. After not having much acting coaching in the past, Steven took me from a “singer who acts when she has to” to a singer-actor. My confidence in performing monologues skyrocketed through our coaching sessions. I grew in character development, scene analysis, and putting myself into the characters’ shoes. Steven also taught me how to put my best self forward in auditions; I can just show who I am and what I can do rather than trying to be something else. From personal introductions and college interviews to performing a scene or monologue, my work with Steven has made me more confident and so proud of what I can accomplish” - Alexis G.

“Steven was a joy to work with. He was courteous and understanding, and was able to help me not only unlock new parts of my voice, but understand what we were changing. I felt welcome and safe in his class. He helped me find and develop my own unique voice as a woman, and helped me to feel much more confident about my voice. I appreciate his care and attention to finding a voice that was right for me, instead of assuming a stereotypical female voice. Steven is skilled, sensitive, and genuinely cares for his students.” - Freya G.

"Working with Steven has been both an adventure and a joy to build my skills up as a voice actor. I have found his teaching methods to be informative and concise, with ease of understanding and performing through the practice of his examples. He always checks up regarding questions and concerns I may have on previous lessons or just my state of mind that day. Through his carefree demeanor, I feel comfortable practicing, and learning from his critics on my progress makes me want to work harder. I always have a smile on my face during class because he presents the material in a fun way. I am excited for the next class each week and I implore others to give him a chance.” - Mathew G.
